Essential Netbook Accessories

Are you a real netbook fan? You love your lightweight device that is so much smaller than a laptop and still can perform all the tasks that you need on the go. However, you wish that the keyboard would just be a little bit larger, that you had more power or space or a more easy way to transfer files and create presentations and so on. I completely understand you: even the best minibook will lack some features that you’d like!

Fortunately, you can now solve all of these problems with netbook accessories that are easy to obtain and add and are available for quite low amounts of money.

Memory – the number 1 on the wish list

Many netbook users would love to have more memory on their miniature laptop. If you only use contemporary applications the 1GB or 512GB that the netbooks come with standard will suffice. But there is a reason why there is the saying: the bigger, the better! A little more can’t hurt, right?! Well, here’s great news: Crucial, a subsidiary of Micron, offers a 2GB SO DIMM that fits fine in almost every brand and model out there.

CD/ DVD writers

Sometimes getting these memory-consuming applications on your netbook at first can be a little bit challenging. Some applications like Microsoft Office or Open Office are usually pre-installed on many models. Others can be downloaded from different websites very easily. However, even today they are only available to be installed from a DVD or CD. You may also be interested in burning files to free up space on your net book.

The Samsung SE-S084B external DVD Writer is what you need. You can not only burn DVDs or CDs with it, but also play movies and use all those features that you are used to having on a normal full-sized laptop. You just need to plug it into an available USB 2.0 port that all netbooks have. If you plug it into 2 USB ports at the same time you can make the unit run even faster.

SDHC cards

Sometimes that is more than you need. Then you can also take advantage of the SD card slot that is built into all netbook models. There are different suppliers offering SDHC cards that can hold up to 32GB of files. I am sure that by the time you read this those cards will be available with even more GBs. A-Data offers a really great turbo speed card. Especially if your netbook is limited to the pre-installed 8 or 16GB SSD drive a card like that can make your life a lot easier if you ensure you get a Class 6 or better (that’s the designator for high-speed SD cards).

External hard drive

What you can also do is to get an external hard drive, which are awesome for full backups, storing large music and video files and many other things. Getting an external hard drive really means going whole hog. The My Passport 250GB capacity external hard drive by Western Digital can be easily plugged into every USB 2.0 port and is even powered through the same cord. This makes life easier as you don’t have to plug it in to the wall and find another free socket. That means wherever you take your netbook you can also take and use this drive.

Netbook carry cases

Put all your extras into one of the Mobile Edge Mini Messenger carrying cases and off you go. You can fit everything in there: netbook, cell phone, PDA and other stuff. You have different pouches for cables and DVDs and even a separate pocket for a water bottle.

If portability is your main issue netbooks are perfect and still provide for full functioning computing. Don’t be turned off by their small size and capacity as you can easily jazz them up with extra accessories. With the right accessories you can have everything offered by a standard laptop and still be flexible.
