Gateway LT 2005u

Using the Gateway Lt2005u I thought of giving you a review including the features of the netbook. Though it is not that easy work, I am just giving you what I felt using it. The Gateway Lt2005u belongs to the Gateway LT20 series which is a 10” netbook. Well, I found that the Lt2005u has many similarities with the Acer Aspire One, but its face is slightly lifted. It provides you with the best of connectivity and convenience on the go.

Looks and Appearance

The Gateway Lt2005u weighs 2.62 lbs which is 1.18 kg for system unit only and 2.87 lbs (1.30 kg.) box. What I found about the looks and appearance of the netbook that it is very stylish in its night sky black color. The color finish gives it an elegant and classy look.

Technical Features

Coming to its technical features I must say that the Gateway Lt2005u characterizes some of the best features of a netbook. It has a processor of Intel Atom Processor1 N270 (1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache) 1 and an operating system supporting Genuine Windows XP Home with SP38. The display of the netbook is 10.1″ SD WSVGA High Brightness LED-backlit Display (1024 x 600 resolution) 9.
Gateway Lt2005u has a battery of 6-Cell Lithium Ion (4400mAh) 11 and Chassis with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Mobile Intel 945GSE Express Chipset10. The box dimension is 4.3″ (H) x 12.7″ (W) x 8.7″ (D) or 110mm (H) x 322mm (W) x 220mm (D) and the system dimension is 1.03″ (H) x 10.17″ (W) x 8.04″ (D) or 26.4mm (H) x 258.5mm (W) x 204mm (D).

The inbuilt memory of Gateway Lt2005u is 1024MB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM Single Channel Memory10 with a hard drive of 160GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive5. With an AC adapter it supports a wireless network of 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED. The network of the netbook is 10/100 Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 port).
It has a webcam with 0.3 Megapixel Integrated Webcam and has (3) USB 2.0, VGA Connector eternal ports. It has media card reader of Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader (Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital™, XD-Picture Card™) 6.

The application software supported by this netbook are Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money Essentials, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (60-day complimentary trial period)2. So I can sum up to say that the technical features are quite good and thus it ensures quite good performances.

Functions and Performances

Coming to the functions and performances given by the Gateway Lt2005u I think the keyboard deserves the first mention. The keyboard keys are very user friendly and also it has a multi gestured touchpad which enables easy and fast working. The keyboard is 89% size of the normal keyboard.
The screen brightness levels vary from very bright to quite dim. But when you are using it under sunny bright sky or outdoors the brightness can be set at the highest range and it thus avails the best display of the picture. Even if the screen is tilted the view still remains usable but of course you cannot use it if your tilt the screen to the extreme level. The Gateway Lt2005u has a led backlit.

With the Wi-Fi network on and heavy work going on the battery gives a back up of average 5 hours, 36 minutes. I must say that the battery life is very good. Though I said that is very much like the Acer Aspire One but in some places it has huge differences from the mentioned one such as the battery life.

It is a budget type netbook and thus the minimum price is $299.99 only! It comes with a warranty of 1 Year Parts and Labor12.

The Gateway Lt2005u has the facility to upgrade the access door for hard drive, wan cards and the memory. I found the quality built very well and I must say that I am impressed with it. Though the touchpad is usually small and thus it gives problems sometimes but the key board makes it up for that. With its cheap price I think this Gateway Lt2005u should rank among the top netbooks.

With some minor drawbacks I found the Gateway Lt2005u very nice and I think the users who wish to get this netbook should check the features themselves and then decide if to keep it!
