MSI X320
This is probably something that Apple will have a close look at and thing over its own product line. Interestingly, this thin and light device mimics MacBook Air in terms of design and style and has an impressive look. The 13 inch screen of the model and the ultrathin build makes this a bit different from the popular netbook class. The MSI X320 is still classified as a netbook and hence, in an attempt to compare the functionality with the looks could only disappoint me and nothing more.
I will however try to reveal all that I found about the new MSI X320 in a categorized way so that you can decide by yourself whether you want to buy it or not. So, the ride begins!
Build
It is aluminum almost everywhere and still you can have a plasticky feeling and this is something that I really did not expect. However, the weight is something of a bit of concern for me but you can like that. It is just below 1.3Kg. In terms of dimension, the unit is quite space-friendly and is only sub-2cm thick.
The lid issue
Uh… something that we normally don’t look at but yes, I had to see this! TheMSI X320 has really done badly with this one. The reason is simple…The lid is quite loose! The worst thing is that, it shuts too easily on certain angles! So, is there nothing good about it? Yes there is! The magnetized lid closer actually impressed me. It is quite solid and strong and you have to actually apply ample power to pull it apart. I like it…a good bit of exercise!
The keyboard and the touch pad
The MSI X320 houses a full sized keyboard and is thus admired. But, feel wise, it is one of the MSI Wind kinds of feeling. The trackpad is not a magic child. Though it is quite spacious, the mouse buttons give a tacky feeling and this is what I hate the most in MSI X320. Why can they not make a comfortable touchpad?
Display
The 13.4 inch display is the interesting feature of this machine and it is glossy by nature. I personally don’t like glossy screens as they have visibility issues outdoors. However, you can always be an admirer of a glossy screen and if it is true, this wide screen is all set to blow your senses. The screen is surrounded by glossy black bezel which is fairly thick. The screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and has 16:9 aspect ratio. This means that you can watch a movie quite comfortably.
Specifications
The set of specifications of MSI X320 pulls out some interesting facts about this ultra slim computing device which has in many ways mimicked the MacBook Air. The set of specifications that I found out when I first saw the MSI X320 netbook, I was a bit overwhelmed.
Inclusion of the 3G / WIMAX connection is something that was unexpected and I was quite thrilled to find that option bundled in the MSI X320 ultra portable computing device. There is however, no option for an optical drive and if you are looking forward to make use of the wonderful aspect ratio of watch a movie, the only option is a download!
Performance
In terms of performance, the response time was quite interesting and did not take enough time to open applications or to boot up to the desktop and hence can actually do better in comparison to the others. As far as the battery life is concerned, MSI claims that the battery will last for a whooping 10 hours in the ECO mode. I haven’t really tested it that but hope that it will perform the way MSI claims!
Conclusion
Not much to say anymore but yet I can’t resist. This MacBook Air style adapted MSI X320 has enough to offer as a laptop and the price tag of $700 and above is quite justified when I look into the features and the specifications!
