Qualcomm PurseBook

Qualcomm Pursebook
The exterior of Sony VAIO P really caught my attention. However, the price had been a major factor that really bothered me! I was wondering there could have been some other netbook in the market with the same design but at prices which could be affordable.
Well, not far behind from NVIDIA which showed wacky Mini 1000 / Tegra mashup at CITA, Qualcomm did something which was indeed magnetic for the eyes! What is that? They have actually taken creativity and technology to a new level where they are looking to repurpose the smartphone silicon into the netbooks and MID class devices.
Now, what do I mean when I say that the PurseBook has a design which is same as Sony VAIO P? The shape and the size of Qualcomm PurseBook is almost the same as that of Sony VAIO P. When it comes to the looks or weight of the PurseBook, it clearly mimics the VAIO P. However, that is the only factor where this new piece of device holds similarity with the VAIO P. Apart from the design, the PurseBook is completely different!
Specifications
Displayed at CITA 2009, the PurseBook is just a prototype and is still awaiting an official announcement. However, the prototype displayed gave a brief overview of what is coming our way…Well, I like it a bit and it can really be a handy competitor of Sony VAIO P and at the same time, it is quite affordable unlike the VAIO which is all set to dig a big hole in your pocket!!
Speaking of the affordability, the PurseBook really seems to be a boon for those who want a stylish netbook like the VAIO P at a low price. Looking at the prototype displayed at CITA 2009 which was displayed at Qualcomm’s counter, the price will be ranging somewhere between $299 and $499 which is quite low compared to the VAIO P!
What really thrilled me was the integrated graphics with the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. Well, we can always look forward to some interesting graphics! The chipset of the prototype also included integrated GPS and 3G which gives an always-on environment and a long-lasting battery life! Now this is where the PurseBook is going to beat others! The prototype claims to have a battery life of 8 hours which means that I can take a day out with the new companion without bothering to carry an adapter with me!!
Screen and Keyboard
Let us now have a look at the screen. The display has a size of 11”. Don’t you think that it is quite big? Yes, it is! The display is bigger compared to the conventional netbook category and Wistron prefered to do so because of the multimedia functionality. The resoulution is also modest 1280×545 pixels. Though a bit less and the techi guys could have taken it a bit higher, it seems to me that the price was the major hindrance. However, the resoultion is not that bad!!
The OS is however not the one which will force you to pay some pennies more! The prototype was tested with Thundersoft (a Linux framework). Sorry! I cannot say that Windows is not an option but yes, the prototype was never tested on Windows platform.
Now, here is some good news for big fingered guys lilke me. Ah! The keyboard is of full size and the keys are quite comfortable (that is what it appeared when I looked at the prototype because, honestly speaking, I never had the chance to operate it by my own!). It also has a mouse pointer with the right and left click buttons placed on either side of the pointer.
Conclusion
The Qualcomm PurseBook seems to be a good competitor of Sony VAIO P. The prototype revealed at CITA 2009 brings up some wonderful promises to give a complete 3G experience to the users! Let us wait until we can grab a chance to enjoy the same!
