Samsung N310

11 May 2009 2 Comments

Take it! Samsung is boasting a battery life of staggering 11 hours! Yes! As Samsung enters the market of high-end nettops, the N310 from Samsung has something different and interesting to offer. Differences are significant compared to the general nettop class of devices and let me take you through those differences in sequence while we monitor the different specifications on our way!

Look and Feel!

A rounded pebble look! Ah! That is something new for me! This peculiar design of the new Samsung N310 eliminates the LCD frame and engraves in it, a glass LCD look…somewhat like MacBook Pros. The first impression that it left on me was that of traction gear - cumbersome, heavy and the embossed name of Samsung gave a feeling that it was ready to take on and defend a bullet! Keeping aside all kind of kidding, the new Samsung N310 has a robust look but in reality is a lightweight discovery to be made!

Screen & Keyboard

How shall I describe it? A 10.1” screen secured behind a slab of glass? Well, I guess that is the best way to define it! The screen also has an anti-reflective treatment and is flat so that it can smoothly position on the keyboard! The screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Looking down at the keyboard, I was impressed. The nearly full sized keyboard, Samsung reckons it as 93% of the size of a desktop keyboard, is actually fast and comfortable and the keys look like chiclets! The keys are quite separate so that typos can be avoided. This is amazing as it increases the typing speed a lot!

The touch pad is yet another attraction! It is not only compelling and responsive but also very smooth that makes it one of the best features of Samsung N310. The right and the left click buttons are assembled on a single bar, which reacts very well, to the stresses of different categories!

Technical Specifications

Before I take you through the overall technical specs at a glance, it is better that I mention the wonderful high-tech design revealed in the machine. On the left of the netbook we find a nice port lock and a USB port followed by a RJ45 port which stays hidden behind a rubber cover… may be in a mood of hide and seek! The usual audio jacks lay just beside a large air vent.

Well, the adjustment looks good! At the backside of the machine is a door for accessing the memory card which can be changed by the user! And there is a 4 celled Li-ion battery which has a run time of 5 hours…awww…I wasn’t wrong, you can actually fit in a 6 celled Li-ion battery which will give a projected run time of 11 hours! Now that is truly magnificent!

Now let us have a complete look at the specifications. Hold your breath! It can be too much for a netbook!

As far as the price is concerned, the Samsung N310 has been priced at $680 which is a bit higher than in the general nettop category. However, the price truly matches the build of the machine and the features that are provided. There is not much information available on the webcam quality but it seems that the device will be a great one to use as it was in the previous nettop versions from the house of Samsung. As far as the colors are concerned, the machine comes in three vibrant colors of black, red and blue.

Conclusion

The pebbled N310 is all set to become a fashion statement but alongside, we must remember that the machine is a high-end nettop that is optimized for some state of the art computing experience on the go!

As one might expect, the Intel Atom N270 processor and 1GB of RAM performed on par with other similarly configured Netbooks, and we found the N310 to fall well within Netbook performance parameters in anecdotal use.
