How to choose a nettop
Nettops can be very well referred to as the truncated versions of the mainstream desktop computers. These computers are basically built for some basic computing needs and are targeted mainly for newcomers and children. But with the increasing number of companies with their tails up to win a major market share, it becomes a herculean task to choose a nettop that best suits your needs and still gives you more than you expected.
The sheer number of nettops in the market with model variations coming from the same manufacturers, you may feel lost and end up choosing a wrong nettop that may fail to deliver. Remember: All that glitters is not gold! The enormous number of nettops can be deceptive and can often fail to deliver what they offer and hence, it is advised that you go through the various reviews that you will find online. Check out their performance statistics and then make a wise decision. Simply put, if you invest in a wrong item, you will lose and you will be left only with the option of blaming yourself!
Choosing a nettop - The steps involved
- The first and foremost thing that you need to do is to set up a budget and find out the nettops that fit in that category. This is very important because, there are different models with different price tags. Some will go way beyond your budget and some will conveniently fall in your budget.
- Once you have fixed the budget and have created a list of nettops available within that budget, you then need to set up some bare basic requirements which a nettop needs to have so that your purpose is fulfilled. For instance, you may be looking for a nettop that will be silent, will be having a DVI port or a VGA port, must have Windows operating system, it must have Intel Atom processor, an onboard graphics card, must have USB ports and Ethernet ports and so on and so forth!
- The main problem that you will be facing here is that several companies will be offering all the features that you will be looking for in their own products. It is then when you need to rely on the several reviews which tend to highlight the pros and cons of the nettops and give details of all the characteristics of the nettops.
- While each of the parts gets described, one thing that you will notice is the specification sections in each review. This section gives the details of the hardware used and the option for upgrading the computer. Well upgrading is important because you may not be very happy about the overall feel and the quality of the computer. For instance, you may want to increase the Hard Disk space from 80 GB to 160 GB or maybe you want to upgrade the RAM from1 GB to 2 GB to make your computer work a little faster. What you must look for the option and scope or extent of up gradation. This may not be same for all the companies (actually they are not same and vary quite a lot). Your option must be the one which helps in upgrading easily without any problem.
